What Is Juvederm Voluma XC?
Juvederm Voluma XC is a gel-based injectable formula that contains hyaluronic acid and lidocaine. The mixture contains 20 mg/mL of hyaluronic acid (HA), which is the highest concentration out of all the Juvederm hyaluronic acid fillers. Lidocaine is included in the formula to reduce any discomfort caused by the injection process.
Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance that the body produces to retain water. It’s found in different areas, including the face, eyes, and connective tissues. This substance continually works to keep all the tissues lubricated so that they function at an optimal level.
As people age, their bodies stop producing the same amount of hyaluronic acid they once did. The skin doesn’t stay as hydrated and it fails to produce as much collagen and elastin as well.
Voluma can instantly add volume to the facial contours and create a youthful glow. Patients can see the treatment results right away, and they can start to feel more confident in their appearance once again.
What Does Juvederm Voluma XC Treat?
Generally, Voluma XC is used for people who are unhappy with their cheek volume. They may be experiencing age-related volume deficiency or changes due to hormones, weight loss, illness, or genetics. Voluma XC can also be used in other areas of the face, such as the lips, chin, and nose (liquid rhinoplasty) however…
Some patients have received Voluma XC treatments in various areas of the chin to fill in irregularities or to add volume. Several types of Juvederm fillers are available, and each one is better suited for different areas of the face.
How Does Juvederm Voluma XC Work?
Like all dermal fillers, Voluma XC is a non-surgical injectable treatment. A fine needle is used to inject the hyaluronic acid gel deep into the facial contours, temporarily increasing hydration and volume for a youthful glow. This product significantly improves sunken cheeks and can enhance areas where wrinkles may be present.
The Juvederm Voluma XC Procedure
The process will begin with a consultation in Dr. Bared’s Miami office. During this meeting, he will screen you to see if you are a good candidate for this specific treatment. You will discuss your goals and health history, ask questions, and get to know the doctor. Afterward, you can set a date for the procedure and start your preparations.
The first thing the doctor will do when you come to your appointment is ensure that your face is clean. He will apply an antiseptic to remove all bacteria from your face before the injections, in order to prevent complications. He may also apply a numbing agent to your face to ensure that you’re comfortable and have little to no pain during the procedure.
Dr. Bared will use the highest level of care when injecting the product. He will take his time to make sure that the first injection is comfortable for you and works as expected before he proceeds to the next injection. The injections will continue until he achieves optimal results by giving you the look you desire.

How to Prepare for Juvederm Voluma XC
Very little preparation is needed before your appointment. However, we recommend that you stay hydrated and avoid smoking and alcohol consumption for at least a few days before your treatment. These activities can interfere with your recovery and can increase the risk of experiencing uncomfortable side effects. It’s also best to avoid over-the-counter painkillers for a week prior to your appointment.
Good Candidates for Juvederm Voluma XC
Voluma is generally safe for healthy people over 18 years of age. However, as with all medical procedures, some people may be at a higher risk of experiencing mild to severe side effects, especially people who have allergies.
Prospective patients who are prone to experiencing anaphylaxis during an allergic reaction are not good candidates for the treatment. Severely allergic individuals may react to the lidocaine or some of the proteins in the product.
These matters will be discussed during the consultation, and Dr. Bared will never recommend something that he believes is unsafe for you. You can feel confident about moving forward with the procedure if he tells you it is a good fit for your needs.
Juvederm Voluma XC Recovery
Your Voluma XC recovery should be extremely quick and manageable. In fact, you can come in for your treatment and go back to work the same day if you like. It may be better for you to take a day off so that you can rest, but it is up to you.
Dr. Bared will give you aftercare instructions for dealing with any minor discomfort following the injections. He might also give you some activity restrictions during the first day or two, but the procedure should not disrupt your life much.
Juvederm Voluma is a minimally invasive procedure that carries very little risk for people who are assessed to be good candidates. After the treatment, some minor side effects like swelling, redness, bruising, and tenderness may occur, but these should resolve quickly. Most patients recover from any residual discomfort within a day and feel normal again within a week.
